I’m Philip “Barney” Barnden
Since leaving school at 16, I have been consistently involved in the horticultural industry. My journey began with hands-on work in commercial nurseries in the 1980s, focusing on tasks like weeding, pruning and propagation. Over the years, I progressed to managing one of the UK’s leading independent garden centres, where I spent over 25 years. During this time, I had the honour of winning the prestigious “Garden Retailer of the Year” award on two occasions.
Throughout my career, my passion and knowledge of plants and gardening have remained steadfast. More recently, I’ve enjoyed revitalising my own garden in Horsham, West Sussex. This personal project has led me to launch my latest venture: The Garden Bee—a bespoke gardening service that offers my expertise to clients seeking professional yet friendly support to enhance their garden spaces. Whether you’re starting with a new build, managing an established garden, or simply want to make gardening easier, I would be delighted to help.
